On 2 February 2011, Simone Moro, Denis Urubko and Cory Richards became the first to reach the summit of Gasherbrum II (8,035 m) in winter. This was also the first winter ascent of an eight-thousander in the Karakoram and Simone Moro’s third winter ascent of an eight-thousander.
